Let me preface this by letting you know Zach Spuckler came up with this term.

However, this idea has been in my mind since I started my journey with my company, Leveraged Media. I just didn't have a term/formula to explain it.

Now I do.

As we enter the new year, I am doubling down on this puzzle piece, and you should, too.

So what is "the sphere of influence?"

Let's look at a typical sales funnel:

Different methods are used during each stage of the funnel to move people towards the next stage.

  • Organic content

  • Ads

  • Lead Magnet

  • Newsletter

  • Case studies

  • Email marketing

  • etc.

The sphere of influence is a community you create to increase the success rate of each part of the funnel.

Here's a visual of what this looks like:

In the middle, you have your community, which is all warm leads.

You develop this by creating organic content as a founder.

Now that you have this sphere of warm leads. Everything you create works 5x better.

Your advertisement is much more effective. Now that you have a warm audience ready to jump into action when you put a CTA in your email marketing.

When running ads, your CPMs go down.

Since you established credibility with organic content and now when someone watches the ad, your warm audience recognizes you and is likelier to watch and click.

Your newsletter's open rate is higher because you've built a community ready to read anything you write.

You’re referral marketing works better. Not only does your client refer you, but now that referral see’s the audience you’ve built. Aka the social proof. Making them more likely to buy.

The point I am getting at here is if you need a reason to start creating content as a founder.

Then, think about the sphere of influence, and what it can do for your marketing.

Everything is interconnected like a web.

Building a warm, organic community allows every stage within your sales funnel to perform better.

Examples of the Sphere of Influence.

Here are some founders building a company that is much more significant than themselves but relies on the sphere of influence to grow.

All of these people recognize the importance of the Sphere of Influence.

The beautiful thing is they are all building (if not already) a multimillion-dollar business.
